PL-Q 2-pin & 4-pin

What are PL bulbs?

PL bulbs are compact fluorescent lamps often used in fixtures where space is limited, such as ceiling lights, wall lights or outdoor lighting. They are known for their energy efficiency, long life and good light output. Unlike round or straight fluorescent tubes, PL lamps are compactly folded, which makes them particularly suitable for enclosed fixtures. The PL-Q lamp is a specific variant with a square shape.

What is a PL-Q lamp?

A PL-Q bulb is a square energy-saving bulb often used in ceiling lights, especially in hallways, stairwells, washrooms and outdoor lighting. The name "Q" refers to the square shape ("quadrant"). These lamps provide a wide and even light distribution and are connected via a 2-pin or 4-pin socket, depending on the fixture and type of ballast.

Difference between PL-Q 2-pin and 4-pin

The difference between PL-Q 2-pin and 4-pin is in the socket and the type of ballast required:

  • PL-Q 2-pin:
Equipped with a starter and operates on a conventional (magnetic) ballast. The starter is usually built into the lamp base.

  • PL-Q 4-pin:
Operates on an electronic ballast and does not have a built-in starter. This variant is more energy-efficient and is often used in more modern fixtures or emergency lighting.

Advantages of PL-Q lamps

  • Compact and powerful light in a square shape

  • Long service life (up to 10,000 hours)

  • Easy replacement in existing fixtures

  • Wide and uniform light image, ideal for functional areas

  • Choice of warm white, cool white or daylight color

Where are PL-Q lamps used?

PL-Q lamps are widely used in:

  • Ceiling lights in hallways, porches and washrooms

  • Outdoor lighting such as under awnings or carports

  • Emergency lighting and stairwells

  • Care institutions and public buildings

Both the 2-pin and 4-pin PL-Q lamps are suitable for specific fixtures. Pay close attention to the type of fitting and the ballast in your existing installation.
