What is a light bulb?

How does a light bulb work?

A light bulb works by using a thin metal wire inside the bulb, which is heated by electricity. When the wire is heated enough, it glows and creates light. Hence the name incandescent lamp. The high resistance of the filament and the lack of oxygen in the bulb prevents the bulb from burning out.

The E27 light bulb is one of the best known light bulbs on the market. These are bulbs with a screw fitting of 27 diameter. "27" refers to the ratio of the socket to the fixture. The E is a reference to the inventor of the incandescent bulb and stands for "Edison screw thread." So E27 is an Edison thread with a diameter of 27 millimeters. Good to know is that there are not only E27 light bulbs, but also E27 LED bulbs, for example. E27 is only a designation for the base of the socket. This is also important to know if you are going to replace incandescent bulbs.
